The Washington you'll remember isn't always the one on the postcards. It's the quiet streets of Capitol Hill at sunrise, an afternoon lost inside the Smithsonian, dinner in a neighborhood you've never heard of, and discovering that the nation's capital is filled with art, culture, nature, and everyday moments that make it unforgettable. This is the Washington DC we know, the Washington DC we love, and the Washington we can't wait to share with you.

WHERE HISTORY LIVES

The National Mall

There's no better place to begin your Washington story than the National Mall. Stretching from the U.S. Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial, it's where America's history, culture, and ideals come together in one unforgettable landscape. Wander past world-famous monuments, pause at memorials that tell stories of sacrifice and resilience, and explore museums that inspire curiosity long after you've left. But don't rush through it. The National Mall isn't just a collection of landmarks. It's where Washington invites you to slow down, look a little closer, and discover that this city is about so much more than politics. It's a place filled with history, art, culture, and everyday moments that continue to shape the nation's capital.

The Library of Congress

Some places leave you speechless the moment you walk through the door, and the Library of Congress is one of them. Beneath soaring ceilings, intricate mosaics, marble staircases, and breathtaking reading rooms, you'll discover that this is far more than a library. It's a celebration of knowledge, art, and imagination. While many visitors come expecting books, they leave remembering the beauty, craftsmanship, and quiet sense of wonder found in every corner. It's one of Washington's greatest treasures, and one that's surprisingly easy to experience during your stay.

The White House

Few places carry the quiet sense of history found at the White House. Stand along Pennsylvania Avenue or beneath the shade of Lafayette Square, and you're looking at a home that has witnessed generations of presidents, pivotal moments, celebrations, and challenges that helped shape the nation. While public tours require advance planning, simply taking in the view is an experience in itself. Arrive early in the morning or linger as the sun begins to set, and you'll discover that some of Washington's most memorable moments aren't found inside its buildings, but in the stories they quietly tell.

ART, HISTORY & DISCOVERY

The Smithsonian Institution

No matter how many times you visit, the Smithsonian always has something new to discover. One day you might find yourself standing beneath the Spirit of St. Louis, the next you're face to face with the Hope Diamond or wandering through galleries filled with centuries of art and history. With free admission to nearly every museum, it's one of Washington's greatest gifts to visitors and an invitation to explore whatever sparks your curiosity.

A Few Places We Love:

National Museum of Natural History: Home to the legendary Hope Diamond, towering dinosaur fossils, and exhibits that inspire curiosity at every age, this is one of those museums where it's impossible to see everything in a single visit. Whether you're traveling with kids or simply fascinated by the natural world, it's an experience you'll remember long after you leave.

National Gallery of Art: From da Vinci and Vermeer to Monet and Van Gogh, the National Gallery of Art offers one of the finest art collections in the country. Even if you don't consider yourself an art lover, there's something unforgettable about wandering its quiet galleries before stepping outside into the beautiful Sculpture Garden.

The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

The Hirshhorn is one of those places that surprises people. Its bold circular design is impossible to miss, but it's what awaits inside that leaves a lasting impression. Wander through thought-provoking contemporary art, immersive installations, and works that challenge the way you see the world. Then step outside into the Sculpture Garden, where art and nature come together in one of the city's most peaceful spaces. Whether you're a lifelong art enthusiast or simply curious, the Hirshhorn invites you to slow down, explore, and experience something unexpected.

OUTDOOR ESCAPES

Rock Creek Park

It's easy to forget you're in the middle of a capital city when you're walking through Rock Creek Park. Towering trees, winding trails, quiet streams, and the sounds of nature replace the pace of downtown, offering a peaceful escape that's been cherished by Washingtonians for generations. Whether you're hiking, cycling, enjoying a picnic, or simply taking a leisurely stroll, this urban oasis is a reminder that some of the city's greatest treasures aren't found inside a museum.

The Tidal Basin

The Tidal Basin is best known for its breathtaking cherry blossoms, but its beauty extends far beyond springtime. Follow the peaceful waterfront paths as they wind past the Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, where every season offers a different perspective of the city. Sunrise brings a quiet stillness, while sunset paints the water in shades of gold, making every walk feel like a memory in the making

United States National Arboretum

The National Arboretum feels like one of Washington's best-kept secrets. Tucked away from the city's busiest streets, it's a place where winding garden paths, seasonal blooms, peaceful meadows, and one of the world's most celebrated bonsai collections invite you to slow down and wander. Before you leave, don't miss the National Capitol Columns, a breathtaking collection of historic columns that once supported the U.S. Capitol and now stand quietly among the trees. It's one of those places that feels wonderfully unexpected and entirely unforgettable.

Kayaking on the Potomac River

Some of Washington's most unforgettable views aren't found on land. Gliding along the Potomac by kayak or paddleboard offers a completely different perspective of the city, where Georgetown's waterfront, Theodore Roosevelt Island, and the monuments unfold from the water. Whether you're looking for a peaceful morning paddle or a memorable afternoon adventure, it's one of our favorite ways to experience Washington beyond the guidebooks.

THE CITY'S BELOVED NEIGHBORHOODS

Washington is a city best explored one neighborhood at a time. Each has its own distinct character, from historic streets and waterfront promenades to lively cafés and hidden local favorites. Venture beyond the monuments to discover the places that give the capital its unmistakable charm.

Georgetown

Some of Washington's best afternoons begin in Georgetown. Wander cobblestone streets lined with historic rowhomes, browse independent boutiques tucked between centuries-old buildings, and follow the sidewalks to the Georgetown Waterfront, where the Potomac sets the stage for long lunches and unforgettable sunsets. It's the kind of neighborhood that rewards wandering, where turning down a quiet side street often leads to your favorite discovery of the day.

Adams Morgan

Adams Morgan has always done things a little differently, and that's exactly what makes it unforgettable. Colorful murals, neighborhood cafés, international restaurants, record stores, and live music give every block its own personality. Spend the afternoon exploring, then stay for dinner because this is one of those neighborhoods that comes alive after the sun goes down. Whether you're looking for an intimate cocktail bar, a rooftop with city views, or late-night bites, there's always another place waiting around the corner.

U Street Corridor

Long before it became one of Washington's favorite destinations for dining and nightlife, U Street was known as Black Broadway, a thriving center of African American culture, music, and entrepreneurship. Legendary artists like Duke Ellington helped shape its legacy, while historic theaters, jazz clubs, and locally owned businesses made the neighborhood a cultural heartbeat of the city. Today, that rich history lives alongside vibrant restaurants, colorful murals, live music venues, and iconic institutions like Ben's Chili Bowl, creating an experience that's both unmistakably Washington and impossible to forget.

DC Wharf

Some of Washington's best evenings begin at The Wharf. Stretching along the Potomac River, this lively waterfront neighborhood invites you to linger over dinner, enjoy live music, watch boats glide through the marina, or simply take a sunset stroll along the boardwalk. It's a place where locals and visitors gather to unwind, reminding you that Washington isn't just a city of monuments. It's a city best experienced one neighborhood, one meal, and one unforgettable evening at a time.

The Local Table

Washington DC's food scene is as diverse, welcoming, and unforgettable as the city itself. From neighborhood cafés and historic institutions to award-winning restaurants and bustling markets, some of the city's best memories are made around the table. These are a few places we'd encourage every visitor to experience.

Eastern Market

Some of our favorite weekends in Washington begin at Eastern Market. Wander along 7th Street and you'll discover neighborhood cafés, inviting brunch spots, locally owned restaurants, artisan bakeries, and cozy patios that capture the everyday rhythm of Capitol Hill. On weekends, the neighborhood comes alive with the beloved Eastern Market Farmers Market, local artisans, and the historic flea market, where fresh flowers, handmade goods, vintage finds, and local artwork spill into the surrounding streets. Come hungry, take your time, and don't be surprised if you find yourself staying longer than planned.

Union Market

Come hungry. Union Market is where Washington's culinary creativity comes together under one roof. Artisan bakers, local coffee roasters, award-winning chefs, and specialty food vendors make it the perfect place to sample the city's ever-evolving food scene one bite at a time.
